Lake: Otatakan

Report: Arrived at Otatakan morning of 9/7/08, stayed 9 days. Weather was bad most of the time with wind, rain, and cold. However, the fishing was awesome with large numbers and some nice fish caught. Below is our daily count and time of fishing. This was one of the best trips ever. It was 3 total people. Largest walleye for the trip 26 inches, largest northern just over 40 inches. Which we caught 3 northerns at or just above 40 inches.
9/7/08, Day 1, Rigged up after we flew in the morning, fished 4 hours. Rain and windy. 94 walleye, 2 northern
9/8/08, Day 2, 7 hours of fishing. Wind and some rain. 146 walleye and 3 northern. Caught 26 inch walleye
9/9/08, Day 3, 8 hours of fishing. Wind and sunny. 136 walleye and 11 northern
9/10/08, Day 4, 8 hours of fishing. Windy, Windy, and cloudy. 173 walleye, 5 northern
9/11/08, Day 5, 8 hours of fishing. No Wind and Sun. 139 walleye, 25 northern
9/12/08, Day 6, 7 hours of fishing. Sunny and very windy, hard to control the boat out in the wind. 91 walleye, 7 northern. Caught 2 pike 40 inches
9/13/08, Day 7, 5.5 hours of fishing. Sun and rain mix, again very windy. 101 walleye, 5 northern, caught a 40 inch pike
9/14/08, Day 8, 6 hours of fishing. Cloudy with windy, cold, temps in the 40's. 147 walleye, 4 northern
9/15/08, Day 9, 2.5 hours of fishing. Sunny with wind and warm. 70 walleye, 3 northern. Larry and Shane flew in to do some camp work, they stayed for a fish fry.
9/16/08 Flew back home, had a great time
Total numbers for the trip for the 3 of us. 1097 walleye and 62 northern

Report: Another great L & M trip. Some pike over 41 inches, many over 35 inches. Plenty of walleye for fish dinners. Good action on buzz baits, chapper baits, and yozuri's. Shallow rivers this year. Cabin, boats, and all equipment great.

Report: Fishing is great as always. Have to quit bringing my wife because she always tells everyone she catches more than I do. Great time and very nice accomodations. Saw lots of bald eagles too.

Report: From Gerry Roaldson, Dennis Mayer, Don Lichte, and Jerry Dorow. Walleye fishing was fantastic, fish size ranged from 16 inches to 28 inches. Northern pike activity slow, the Adams Family took great care of us and the treated us to great accomodations.

Report: Caught walleye everywhere particulary in the northern end of the lake. 17-19 inch walleye was the norm with some in the 20-23 inches. The fishing was great. The accomodations were excellent

Report: Walleyes on every point and on the humps in 15-20 feet of water. Lots of "accidental" northerns too. Another great time at Fawcett lake with L & M.

Report: Water was alittle low, fishing was good. Largest fish, 37 inch pike. Lots of bugs. Had a good time.

Report: Northern fishing, caught big ones. Top 3 pike, 44 inches, 42 inches, and 40 inches. Several 20-30 inch class. Walleye fishing so so. Biggest was 21. We worked to get the walleye but they were there.

Report: Wind!!! 6 out of 7 days, 2 of the days up to 4 foot waves. Inspite of the wind avg 70-80 fish per day for our party of 4. Last day 125 plus fish. Caught bigger pike and walleye this year though on Fawcett compared to previous years. We are coming back.

Report: Excellent facilities, lots of room. 2 stoves, 2 fridges, lots of space. Plenty of hot water. Fishing, "Well", thought I would never tire of catching walleyes but exactly that on our trip. Largest pike 36 inches, largest walleye about 6-7 pounds. Had a great time. Broke a fishing pole fishing right from the dock while trying to catch a fish I hooked.

Report: Small to medium walleyes, largest 25 inches. Biggest northern 34 inches. Fishing was slow and were not hitting well after the front came through. Good cabin and facilities.

Report: First time in August for our trip. Great trip. Biggest walleye 26 inches, biggest northern 37 inches. But we did not fish for northern. Fish were very aggressive. Artifical worked as good as live bait. Fished Wright, Kamiskag, Strout, and 7 dam lakes. We will be back...

Report: Sunny all week. Walleye good on any bait. Northerns good in grassy points with jerk baits, spinner bait, and crank baits. Largest pike caught, 40 inches with numberous 20-30 inch pike. Walleye avg 17-19 inch everywhere. Had some top water action too.

Report: Great trip. Stable weather all week. High temp 85 degrees, low of 51. Fished all the lakes. L & M's catch and release policy's are really paying off with number of quality fish during our trip. Big pike of the week, 41 inches. Walleye 26 inches. Been doing fly ins for 20+ years. L & M is the best outfitter in the north. Completely reliable. Top notch equipment in perfect shape. Thanks Shane!

Report: Walleye fishing was excellent! Caught many 20-25 inch walleyes while fishing for northerns on big crank bait and jerk baits. Found alot of walleye in cabbage weeds. Biggest walleye 25 inches (caught 2 at that size). Biggest northern 33 inches. Also had 2 larger fish up to the boat but was unable to get hooks into them.

Report: Our "couples" trip. Easy to catch fish every day. Generally in the 15-16 inch walleyes-some larger, some smaller. Ate 2 walleye meals per day. Had one meal of northern boil. Walleyes generally between 12-25 feet of water out in the main lake. All equipment tp notch! Well done again L & M!

Report: Great accomodations, fantastic fishing. Weather was good 60% of the time, and GREAT 30% of the time, hardley any rain all week. This was the best fishing trip Ive taken in 30 years of trips. Walleye in 8 to 10 foot of water on the drop offs. Rocky bottoms produced the most fish. Northerns were in the shallows with weeds and also on the drop offs. Sorry, no fish numbers or fish count to give.....was to busy catching and releasing!!!

Report: Fishing was good overall. Biggest pike was 40 inches. Largest walleye 26 inches. Best lake was Kaminiskag, while Wright was still good fishing as well. Weather was hot and windy. Nice breeze to keep the bugs away. Had a great trip.

Report: Great weather and great fishing! Cabin improvements of bathroom, new bedroom, and flooring is much appreciated. Enjoyed watching the gulls hassle the eagles fo the fish entrails. Largest walleye was 23 1/2 inches and largest northern 36 inches. New latch on the minnow canister is good but we will miss the wire latch!!

Report: First time fishing in Canada was a wonderful experience. Hank was kind enough to ask us to come along on the trip with him as he's been to Canada numerous times. Great facilities with alot of room. We caught lots of walleye up to 2 pounds. Many in the 14-18 inch class. Caught a few pike but not any big ones. Many points on the lake to fish with no need for a depth finder to find fish.

Report: Good fishing. Caught walleyes from 5 inches all the way up to 24 1/2 inches. Lots of mosquitoes after dark. Clean cabin. Good boats with easy to crank outboards. 7th year fishing at Dobie, fishing gets better every year and the fish are growing! Cordial hosts as always! Recommend to anyone wanting quality and quantity of great walleye fishery!

Report: Great fishing. The weather was mostly sunny. Kaminskag lake was the best out during this trip. 354 total fish for the 4 of us, alot of 22-23 inch walleyes were caught. The biggest pike was 40 inches caught right next to the cabin. Acouple other pike in the upper 30 inches were also caught.

Report: Good walleye fishing on reefs, jig and minnow. Also shad raps in shad color worked well. Northern, in the weeds, spinners worked the best. Easy for 2 people to catch 100 walleye in a day. Nice chuncky sized walleyes, avg 16-20 inch. All in all, fishing was great!

Report: Came to relax and get away just the 2 of us. Caught plenty of walleye the first day right off the reef in front of the cabin. The 2nd day rained and stormed, slept in and relaxed around the cabin most the day. The 3rd day, caught 80-100 walleyes off the north reefs after lunch. Caught some nicer sized walleyes, Andrea caught the largest walleye on this trip.

Report: Many 13-16 inch walleyes, up to 20 inch walleyes and up to 30 inch northerns. Slower fishing from noon to 6 pm. Choppy water inhibited further boat trips out to the main lake, otherwise good action with brigher colors.

Report: Fishing and accomodations were great as always. Walleyes and northern both in size and numbers located on mid lake structure. Great lake, lots of fish. Walleyes in the 16-20 inch range very common. Several 22-26 inch walleye also. Fished mid lake structure, 15 feet of water. Jigs and Rat-L-Traps very effective. Lots of northerns scattered thru out the lake, some in the 36-40 inch class. Awesome trip.

Report: Fabulous trip! Best small mouth action we have ever experienced. Several 17 inch bass with largest near 18 inches. Many 16 inch bass, too many of those to count. Short portage lake was also productive. Many "doubles" with good mix of small mouth and walleyes. We caught plenty of walleyes to eat on Fishtrap and the portage lake. Live bait was best but artificials worked also. Pike was alittls now but we managed to catch several, largest 32 inches.

Report: Another great trip. Caught alot of walleye around the river and off the points. Caught hundreds of walleye. Largest walleye at 24 inches. Pike were in shallow waters. Pike fishing was good, but no real big ones. Largest pike about 11 pounds. Also caught afew 9-10 pounders. Accomindations were great. Saw atleast 10-15 moose between our group of 10 people during our trip. Awesome wildlife everyday. (snagger needs more little joe's)

Report: The weather and walleye fishing was fabulous. Catching walleye in Strout was like catching sunnies off the dock at the cabin in MN. Lots of 16-18 inch walleyes. Biggest was 23 1/2 inches. Report: The group from Port Washington, WI had an excellent trip to Fawcett Lake. Biggest fish ever during our years to Fawcett Lake! Catch and Release program works. Stats...Largest walleye 27 inch, 2 at 25 inches, 3 at 24 inches. Over 25 walleyes over 22 inches. Biggest northern 38 inch, but we didnt fish for them. Caught over 200 walleyes in one day for one person!! 4th trip to this lake. Great cabin, first rate.

Report: Despite 4 days of bad weather and mayfly hatch, we had a great trip. 75-100 walleyes per person on Strout. Several high 30 inch pike with alot of 40 inch class follows or lost at the boat. Portages no problem. Only needed to get out of the boats on rapid area to Strout. Cabin, boats, motors, gear....all in great working shape. Used very little live bait. Will most likely be back next year again.

Report-Caught 1-40 inch pike, caught 1-41 inch pike. One caught on spoon and the other on minnow in the bays. Many 20 plus inch walleye with the largest being 22 inches. Most walleye caught in river narrows area in 5-7 foot of water. Although it rained everyday, we still caught alot of fish. 40 plus per boat each day with some days around 60 fish per boat. Minnows worked best with crawlers almost as good. Lake was too rough with storms to explore the northern part of the lake.

Report: Great job by L & M. 88 degrees one day, then 54 degree with rain the next day. Lot of walleye in the rivers yet, numberous walleyes in the 23-25 inches. Largest being 26 1/2 inches. Largest pike 36 inches. Saw 2 moose and fox swimming in the channel. Mayfly hatched but still caught lots of fish during the trip. One day it seemed like every walleye we caught was attacked by a northern before we could get it to the boat. Hope to be back again next year.

Report: Great walleye catch even though the mayfly hatch was active. 50-75 walleye per day per person. Deluxe accomodations. Definately coming back. Had 1 large nothern well over 40 inches come up and grabbed a walleye we were fighting to the boat, he praticed his own form of catch and release.

Excellent cabin and set up. Great lake. Men outfished the women (maybe becuase 8:00 a, was too earily for fishing). L & M did an excellent job again, we will be back. Very few fish in the main lake yet, mostly in the rivers. 1100+ walleyes. 26 3/8 inch walleye being the largest, caught on an ultra light. Largest pike 39 inchs, caught on 4# test ultra light. Guys continue to loose at fill or bust, but whatever.

Report: 2 pike over 40 inches caught in Wright lake itself. Walleyes are running bigger this year, 20+ inch avg. Late weeds this year=slower fishing compared to previous trips. Some walleye in the 24-25 inch range. Cabin was very clean, good trip.

Report: Great fishing. 138 walleye and 30 northern for just the 2 of us on this huband/wife team. North portage provided the biggest walleye. Dock fishing gave us the biggest northern. 25 inch walleye, 32 inch northern. Awesome fishing, hardly a slow day. Some rain, but nice weather for the most part.

Report: Tons of fish. 100+ per boat per day. Well equiped cabin. Everything was as advertised. Walleyes where mainly 16-22 inches. A handful of northern in the mid 30 inch class and 1 northern at 42 inches. Caught within 20 yards from the dock. The Adams Family are a great group.

Report: Good week. Nice weather and facilities. Caughts lots of fish including 2 pike over 40 inches. Largest being 44 1/2 inches. Had especially good luck in Kaminskag. Strout was so-so fishing compared to previous trips and was difficult to get boats back up the rapids. First class operation. Bring peanuts for the woodchuck. Caught 1 muskie but Shane wont believe us without a picture to verify this muskie.

Report: North Portage was great. Big walleye in north portage lake. Lots of walleye in Austin too, just ran smaller in size. Caught 2-24 inch walleye and 23 and 22 1/2 inches. 40 inch, 35 1/2 inch, 31 1/2, and 2-30 inch northerns caught. The largest northern caught the 1st evening of the trip in Austin. Lake transitioning, weeds starting to come up. Perch looking lures along with gold worked well. Used no live bait. Saw plenty of wildlife including bears and mooses. Cabin was nice.

Report: Fishing was great all week. Had alot of good times. Largest walleye 30 inches, next biggest just under 30 inches. Caught more walleye on this trip than previous trips. Bass fishing was tougher than previous years. Fished on Fishtrap all trip, no need to portage as we caught all we wanted on the main lake.

All amenities worked perfectly. Boats were superb and dry. Fishing was the best we've had. Avgeraging 50-75 fish/boat each day. Could of caught many more if we would sit in 1 stop, wanted to explore other area's of the lake and rivers. Great fishing in the river everywhere. Largest northerns were 2 at 40 inches and 1, 36 inch pike. With numerous mid 30 inch class. Saw alot of wildlife including 4 moose and had great weather. Another superb L & M adventure!

Report: Top water baits worked well!!! Cast for northern, catch big bass. Cast for walleye, catch big bass. Rocks were strong. Weeds still too low to fish. Avg 16 inch bass, 9 per day per person. Northern running deeper. Hot weather most of the week. Had to work to catch walleye small enough to eat, most too big.

Report: Good fishing all week. Rain and windy first 5 days, last 2 days clear. Over 250 fish for the 2 of us, all artificial. Northern size all the way up to 42 1/2 inches (20++ pounds). Walleye up to 22 inches and bass up to 18 inches. Nothing beats fresh walleye for lunch, rain or shine!!

Report: Wind, rain, every day! Caught fair amount of walleye and pike. A few large fish but not alot. Had a great time, then more wind and rain. Still a great time. See what happens next year.

Report: Excellent cabin and L & M service second to none. Fishing slow the first day, but picked up each and every day. Jose caught the fattest 42 inch northern we've ever seen in the small portage lake. Portage trails were alittle tough, but worth it. All caught many, many walleye and northerns. Tim lost the normal amount of blood to the poor little pike he caught. Great trip!!

Report: Great place, great fishing. Equipment top notch as usual. Biggest walleye 23 inches, lots of walleye 19-22 inches. Could catch them pretty well anywhere, one of the best places off the dock in the evenings.

Report: Quality camp excellent. Quality of service excellent. Walleye 50 per man per day. Largest 27 inches. Numberous 22-25 inch walleyes. Largest northern 40 inches. 2 1/2 days of fair weather and 2 1/2 days of rain. Fishing was great!

Report: Northern active on the reefs. Walleyes scatterd at varible depths, but still biting plastic. Most fish moved out of the river. Largest walleye at 3 1/2 pounds. Fished all shorelines, points, depths from 3-23 feet. Bigger fish on the big north point. Did not fish 3 days due to rain. (Tuesday, Thursday, and most of Friday).

Report: Fishing slow. Bad weather, wind out of the Northeast, strong winds 4 out of 5 days. Did catch good bass off the dock sunday evening which was our only nice weather day. Several bass in the 4# range. Bass not spawning yet, cold weather kept them off the beds. Largest northern 35 inches, caught enough walleye in Fishtrap and Upper Highrock to eat. Upper Fishtrap portage very tough and it was a slow day.

Report: Fishing was excellent. All the usual hot spots were productive and both walleye and northern were plentiful. Big walleye was a 4 way tie at 23 1/2 inches for the group, and big pike a 2 way tie at 35 inches. Lots of fun fish in the slot, and no problem finding eaters either. Weather was rainy and cool 2 days, sunny and moderate temps 2 days. Fishing good all 4 days.

Report: Caught lots of walleye in the 14-18 inch range. Largest 24 inches, caught fishing from the dock. Largest northern, 40 inches, caught on a spoon. Caught lots of small northern and serveral northern in the 30 inch range. Most walleye caught on jigs and shad raps. Northerns caught on buck tails also. Weather was rainy and windy. Had a great time, thanks.

Report: Even with the wind and rain, we found places to fish. Group caught and released several hundred walleye each day. Sizes 15-18 inch avg with several above 20 inches. "Money" fish was 23 1/2 inches. Facilities always great. Cant remember, this was our 9th or 10th year to this lake now.

Report: Cold, wet, windy trip. Good fishing in the river. Caught acouple 25 inch walleye, lots of 20-22 inch walleye, and tons of 14-18 inch walleye. Had a large northern on but lost it after a long battle. Caught 1 small lake trout near the river. Used leeches and worms. Had a great time.

Report: Camp well furnished with everything we needed and clean when we arrived. Good stock of kitchen utensils. No problems with the stoves or hot water. Shower fine. ishing very good at the rivers, inlets to the lake. 36 inch pike and fat biggest pike, 23 inch largest walleye, many over 20 inches. Used more than 40 doz minnows by day 5 for our group of 3.

Report: This year was a family affair. My son Jared (13) caught a 26 inch walleye, his uncle caught many pike in the mid 30 inch range. I caught 4 walleye oer 24 inches with the largest at 28 inches. Grandpa lead the group group with a 40 inch pike. Great weather, great fishing, great outfitter, overall a great trip.

Report: Transition fishing, plenty of walleyes caught but not as fast and furious as expected. Largest pike caught right off the dock, 38 inches. Largest walleye 28 inches. Bigger fish up the north portage.

Report: Great Fishing! Great Accomodations. Fish heavy in the river and around the falls. Walleye on minnows and some leeches. Could catch a "limit" of walleye in 1 hour for our group of 10. Several 25-33 inch northerns in the river and falls. Weather 65-75 degrees all week, 1 afternoon of rain. Walleye still milking. Camp was perfect. Dougie came home. Great time by all!!

Report: Fishing was good. Several days we caught 100 or over fish. When it rained on Friday, the youngest member of our party caugh 167 walleye and northern up in the river. Everything worked great at the cabin. The hot shower at the end of the day was the best. We will be back next year for our 10th year.

Report: Excellent small mouth fishing, 60-70 caught in the 3 pound range. Good pike fishing, largest 35 inches. Everything on artificial bait and fly rod. Bass just coming up in the shallows for the spawn.

Report: The fishing was excellent. Walleye up to 26 inch and pike up to 33 inch. Facilities were excellent. This was my first fishing and float plane trip that Larry and Nancy invited us along on, its whole experience was awesome.

Report: Another quality experience with L & M. Fishing was alittle slower compared to other trips but still caught our fair share of walleye and northern. Caught 36 inch lake trout along with a 38 inch pike, largest walleye 23 inches.

Report: Fishing was great! Caught lots of northerns and walleye. Walleyes were mostly 14-16 inches with the biggest being 25 inches. Many large northerns caughts in the upper 30 inch class with the biggest being 41 inches. Most fish were caught near the in/out flows and the portages where great too. Good time had by all.

Report: The fishing was outstanding. Steady action all day long. Several anglers landed over 100 fish in a day. Lots of 16-22 inch walleye caught at the outlet (LOTS!). One boat landed appro. 170 the day before we flew home. Northerns still havent moved in, 24 inch biggest walleye, 30 inch pike. The water falls at the north end of the lake is a great place to visit for a shore lunch-picturesque setting to say the least.

Report: Day 1, The sun was out and the bite was on for "walleye". Day 2, Rain Windy, Bite still on. Snow!! Great shore lunch by the far outlet. Day 3, Big pike caught, walleye bite slow. Cold Winds.

Ice! Cold! Snow! Rain! Wind! Sun! Warm! Saw it all. Water temp in Wright 35-40 degree. Graniteboss 45-50 degree. Action was acceptable when the temps was warmer. No record sized fish this year. Fished in the toughest conditions yet in all our years to Wright. Fun! Coming back same dates next year.

Report: Ice covered 3/4 of the lake upon arrival with windy conditions and temps in the mid 40's for the highes first 4 days. Last 3 days of trip temps rose to the 70's. Excellent walleye and northern fishing last 1/2 of trip. Many walleyes in the 22-26 inch class. Largest northern 35 inches. Equipment and facilities excellent as normal. Fawcett and surrounding lakes offer excellent water to explore. Most of the fish were in the river area's. Caribou and snowshoe sightings. Be back next year in August.

Report: Fishing was good for walleyes at the inlets and outlets of the lake. Lots of 17-20 inchers. Smaller pike on crankbaits in the rocks and reefs, not in the weeds yet. Big pike caught on jigs while fishing for walleyes. Largest walleye caught 23 inches (Brodie). Largest pike 37 inches. Water tmeps varied from spot to spot. SW river water temp 47-48 degrees while the North Falls was 43 degrees. SW river walleyes seemed to already have spawned while the north end havent spawned yet. Males where milking in the SW river. Good times.

Comments: Water temp 45 up to 48 degrees. Good small mouth fishing. Avg size 2 pound to 3 pound, largest a 19 inch. Almost all the fish in water less than 5 feet. Northern in deeper water, 8-20 feet. Short portage lake excellent. Best results on crank baits.
